About Barcode Generator

Barcode Generator produces industry-standard 1D (linear) barcodes for retail, logistics, healthcare, and internal tracking. Fifteen formats are supported β€” from consumer-facing EAN-13 and UPC-A found on grocery items, to Code 128 and Code 39 used across warehouses, to ITF-14 for shipping cartons and Pharmacode for pharmaceutical packaging.

All generation happens in your browser via a self-hosted encoder. Live preview updates on every keystroke, custom colors and dimensions let you match brand or label stock, and you can export as SVG for lossless print, PNG for digital use, or JPG for compatibility. Batch mode turns a list of values into a printable sheet in one click.

100% client-side: encoding runs in your browser. Product codes, SKUs, tracking numbers β€” none of it ever touches our servers.

How to use Barcode Generator

1

Pick a format

EAN/UPC for retail, Code 128 for general text, Code 39 for legacy systems, ITF-14 for shipping cartons. Format hints show the required length and charset.

2

Enter your value

Live preview updates as you type. Invalid values (wrong length, wrong chars) show a clear error.

3

Style it

Bar width, height, margin, colors, font size. Match brand colors or label-stock dimensions.

4

Download or print

SVG for print, PNG/JPG for digital. Batch mode produces a printable sheet of many codes.

Key Features

15+ barcode formats

EAN-13 (grocery), EAN-8 (small products), UPC-A (US retail), UPC-E (compact retail), EAN-5/EAN-2 (book add-ons), Code 128 A/B/C (general purpose, high-density), Code 39 (legacy alphanumeric), Codabar (libraries, blood banks), ITF and ITF-14 (cartons), MSI family (inventory), Pharmacode (pharma packaging).

Per-format hints

Each format tells you exactly what's allowed β€” length, characters, checksum behavior. No more mystery errors.

Custom colors + dimensions

Bar color, background color, bar width, bar height, quiet-zone margin β€” all live-adjustable. Match your brand or fit a specific label stock.

Optional human-readable text

Toggle the value display, adjust font size and alignment β€” useful when your label already prints the value elsewhere.

Batch mode

Paste one value per line, click Generate β€” all codes render in a grid you can print as a full sheet. Perfect for label runs, product launches, or asset tagging.

PNG + SVG + JPG export

SVG for lossless scaling in Illustrator / Word / label software. PNG for web and digital. JPG for legacy systems that don't accept PNG.

Copy image + Print

Copy straight to clipboard for pasting into Slack, docs, or design tools. Print button opens a clean full-page print dialog.

Common Use Cases

  • Retail product labels β€” EAN-13 (grocery), UPC-A (US), EAN-8 (small packaging)
  • Warehouse SKU / bin / rack labels β€” Code 128 or Code 39
  • Shipping cartons and pallets β€” ITF-14
  • Book jackets β€” EAN-13 (ISBN) with EAN-5 add-on for price
  • Library cards and blood-bank samples β€” Codabar
  • Pharmaceutical packaging β€” Pharmacode for track-and-trace
  • Asset tags, tool tracking, IT inventory β€” Code 128
  • Event tickets and access cards β€” Code 128 for compact alphanumeric
  • Coupon codes β€” printed on receipts or flyers
  • Membership cards β€” Codabar (legacy readers) or Code 128
  • Rapid label prototyping for design mockups and prints
  • Testing barcode scanners before rolling out a system

Security & Privacy

  • 100% client-side: the barcode encoder runs in your browser via a self-hosted library.
  • Works offline: once the page loads, disconnect and it still works.
  • No logging of content: SKUs, product codes, tracking numbers never leave your device.
  • Safe for internal data: serial numbers, internal SKUs, and proprietary tracking IDs stay local.
  • Standards-compliant output: uses the widely-used JsBarcode library which follows GS1 and industry specifications. Always test with your actual scanner before large runs.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you're selling in retail, EAN-13 (EU/global) or UPC-A (US). For internal warehouse / SKU labels, Code 128 (compact, alphanumeric) or Code 39 (legacy but very widely supported). For shipping cartons, ITF-14. For books, EAN-13 (ISBN). For pharma packaging, Pharmacode.
Each format is picky about length and characters. EAN-13 needs 12 or 13 digits (the last is a check digit, auto-computed if you give 12). UPC-A needs 11 or 12. ITF-14 needs exactly 14 digits. Code 39 only accepts uppercase A-Z, 0-9, and -.$/+% . The hint under the input tells you exactly what's expected.
EAN, UPC, and ITF-14 include a final digit computed from all the others β€” scanners use it to detect misreads. If you supply a partial value (12 digits for EAN-13), we compute and append the check digit automatically. If you supply the full value, we validate that the check digit is correct.
Yes β€” the underlying JsBarcode library implements industry-standard encodings. That said, always test with your actual scanner before printing thousands. Scanning depends on print quality, bar width (X-dimension), quiet zone, and paper contrast. Bump the bar width to 3–4 px for reliable scanning at typical distances.
You can, but scanner reliability depends on contrast between bars and background. Dark colors on white are safest. Avoid red bars β€” many laser scanners use red light and can't distinguish red bars from white. Blue and black are safe; test with your actual scanner if you deviate.
SVG for anything printed β€” labels, packaging, letterhead. Vector graphics stay perfectly crisp at any size. PNG for web use or paste into apps that don't accept SVG. JPG only if a legacy system requires it.
For products sold through major retailers (Amazon, Walmart, grocery), yes β€” buy a GTIN from GS1 (gs1.org). For internal SKUs, warehouse tracking, or private events, you can use any number you want. This tool generates the barcode symbology; it doesn't register the number with any authority.
